In this unbiased review we used the app version available directly from the Google Play Store (i.e. not the APK file). Read on to see how we found Swing VPN's usability, performance, and security/privacy protocols.

Warning: As discussed within this review, many user ratings on the Play Store state this app is a DDOS Botnet which uses user devices to target various organization's servers. Whilst these claims have not been substantiated as far as we can tell (the app is still live on the Play Store after all), please use extreme caution and consider using a more reputable VPN option. Alternatives are listed within the article below.

Please ensure you are aware of the risks when using a free VPN. Always opt for a reputable service (you can find suggestions below, just before our conclusion). For safety tips visit our article '8 Essential Tips for Using a Free VPN Safely'.

What is Swing VPN?

Swing VPN, developed by Travis Allen Dev, is a free VPN app available for Android (5.0 and above) devices.

App details from the developer:

"Looking for a trusted VPN app to connect to the internet and browse the internet securely via VPN network? With this VPN Proxy tool, you can browse restricted websites, apps and games or even hide your identity while using the Internet. Get ready to use the most simple, secure and trusted VPN app that is free."

Is Swing VPN Safe?

As per the warning at the top of this article, user-presented insights suggest that Swing VPN is not safe and could result in your device and IP address being used in cyber attacks on government agencies and private organizations.

Again, whilst these claims have not been proven as far as we can discover, there is a serious potential risk in downloading and using the app.

Usability

Swing VPN has a user-friendly interface, making it easy to navigate. The app doesn't require a log-in, and its UI is straightforward and uncluttered, featuring a 1-tap connect/disconnect option for your chosen VPN server location.

The speed-test feature is a nice touch, but the ads (as with many free VPN options), pop up repetitively.

Performance

In our tests, we were unfortunately unable to get Swing VPN to connect to a single server, having to watch an ad on every retry.

The app has a modest server network across 24 countries, but due to the aforementioned connectivity issues, none could be utilized.

Security and Privacy

Swing VPN does not list any encryption protocols being used to secure user data.

In terms of Googles Data Safety audit (provided by the developer), no user data is shared with third parties, with the only data collected consisting of 'device or other IDs' for the purpose of 'advertising or marketing'. Data however, is listed as unencrypted and not transferred over a secure connection, which is a major red flag.

Considering these previous points with the numerous negative user reviews citing DDOS Botnet activity, it seems easy to come to the conclusion that your data may be safer if you avoid downloading Swing VPN.

How Much Does Swing VPN Cost?

Swing VPN is free at the expense of recurring and repetitive ads.

The user reviews, which at potentially nefarious device use by the app, should be considered in the 'cost vs risk' evaluation of using Swing VPN.

Where to Download Swing VPN?

Swing VPN can be downloaded (although we recommend caution) directly from Google Play Store here. The APK file is also available at APK Pure.

User Reviews

Swing VPN has over 100,000 downloads on the Play Store with an average user review/rating of 3.4 stars (from 1,190+ reviews).

As mentioned throughout this article, there are user reviews which suggest the app could be dangerous for your device and data. For example:

Conclusion

Swing VPN for Android appears to offer a user-friendly experience, but is unfortunately let down by severe connectivity issues and repetitive ads, both adding to the time spent attempting to connect.

Additionally, the primary purpose of using a VPN is to protect your security and privacy. Currently, this app does not inspire user confidence that devices and data will be managed safely, due to its numerous unanswered and highly alarming users reviews.

Always be careful when using a free VPN and opt for a reputable service.
